Psychological Assessment
What types of assessments do we do?
Screening a psychological Screening includes a consultation with client and/or parent and will involve brief assessment of current functioning, with report and recommendations for treatment if needed—and if warranted—the need for further evaluation. Screenings typically identify clinically significant problem with behavioral issues, including ADHD, oppositional defiance, anxiety, OCD, depression, and more.
Comprehensive a Comprehensive psychological evaluation will include all necessary psychological testing needed to determine the likely cause for the individual’s struggles based on clinical interview with the client and/or parent. This evaluation involves the psychologist’s professional selection of assessment measures given the client’s expressed concerns. This evaluation will always include the core components of a (1) psychological screening, (2) cognitive/I.Q. assessment, and (3) social-emotional and behavioral functioning assessment. Beyond the three core components of the Comprehensive evaluation is where the psychologist will customize the assessment to ensure appropriate diagnostic impressions, with no stone being left unturned. Depending on the needs of the client, additional testing may include developmental assessment, measures of adaptive functioning, structured clinical observations, school visits, educational assessment, and more. Psychological and mental-behavioral health problems are complex and many overlap in symptomology. Meaningful recommendations—such as applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), formal accommodations in the classroom for students struggling with a specific learning disorder, or behavior management plan for adults with developmental disabilities—depend on appropriate diagnosis, which may only be achieved through a comprehensive, customized assessment process.
Admissions and Gifted Testing. an Admissions and/or Gifted assessment focuses solely on helping parents and schools identify the proper placement of a student in academic setting. This involves assessment of the student’s cognitive ability and academic achievement level. Psychologist will administer cognitive/I.Q. test and academic assessment as outlined by Louisiana State Bulletin 1508. No investigation of psychological dysfunction will be conducted. If there is concern about behavioral functioning, a Screening or Comprehensive evaluation is recommended.
